Flo Therapy

Flo takes traditional therapy and fitness to a new level, enhancing wellness in an integrative approach to reducing pain, increasing function and improving your overall health.  While much of the medicine is based on traditional musculoskeletal treatments for injuries and painful medical conditions, Flo goes much further in addressing the wellness needs of the whole patient. Drawing from traditional far Eastern disciplines such as Ti Chi and Yoga, in concert with newer exercise programs such as Pilates, Flo has developed an integrated therapy and exercise program we call Synergy. These programs are patient-specific and tailored to meet the needs of patients suffering from a broad range of conditions from back injuries and industrial injuries to fibromyalgia and headaches.

Beyond the therapy and exercise components, Flo promotes the idea that diet, weight control, proper sleeping, smoking cessation and overall wellness are critical to pain relief, functional improvement, health and longevity. Flo thus include nutritional guidance, holistic specialists and homeopathic alternatives to traditional pharmaceutical approaches. Our practitioners offer solid evidence-based guidance in the use of nutritional supplements and herbal remedies as well as relaxation techniques, aromatherapy and other non-traditional approaches designed to treat the patient’s mind, body and spirit.

Starting with the basic belief that “we are what we eat,” patients must understand that proper diet is critical even if weight loss is not the goal. Our nutritional specialists and other Flo practitioners are experts in the impact of diet on pain and pain management. Practical and cost-effective guidance to eating a healthy anti-inflammatory natural diet is part of the Flo process to better health and function.

Proper sleep habits are critical to a healthy life, and the adverse effects of smoking on health and chronic pain are well known. Flo enhanced therapy wellness provides patients with the help they need to correct their negative lifestyle habits, including sleep hygiene and smoking cessation programs. The goal is to return the patient to a level of function and wellness they might have previously thought unreachable. Additional services utilized by flo participants often include pain psychology services, therapeutic massage and acupuncture, along with advanced interventional pain management techniques.

Behavioral Pain Management

Behavioral Pain Management therapy is a form of talk therapy that helps people identify and develop skills to change negative thoughts and behaviors. By changing their negative thoughts and behaviors, people can change their awareness of pain and develop better coping skills, even if the actual level of pain stays the same.

Acupuncture for pain management is a method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing and to improve functioning. This is done by inserting needles and applying heat or electrical stimulation at very precise acupuncture points.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy (PT) involves the treatment, healing, and prevention of injuries or disabilities. PT helps to relieve pain, promote healing, and restore function and movement. This is accomplished by various hands on manipulation such as stretching, strengthening exercises, pain relief exercises and low-impact aerobic conditioning.

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy as a non-pharmacological pain management therapy that can be used successfully in pain management. The massage therapist not only helps relieve muscle and other soft tissue pain, but also has an impact on the patient by virtue of human touch.

Sports Injuries

Sports injuries refer to the kinds of injury that occur during sports, exercise or strenuous activity. While it is possible to injure any part of the body when playing sports, the term sports injuries is commonly used to refer to injuries of the musculoskeletal system.
