Ketamine Therapy

A safe, new approach to depression treatment and pain management.

What is ketamine infusion therapy?

Ketamine infusion therapy is a highly specialized, non-opiate treatment for moderate to severe cases of chronic pain and clinical depression. It has been shown to help with pain management, most notable with cases of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), as well as helping to promote recovery and progress during treatment.

How does ketamine help with chronic pain?

Ketamine is a non-opiate medication that works by blocking a receptor called N-methyl-D-aspartate, or NMDA. That receptor is responsible for many chronic pain conditions.

A series of low-dose ketamine infusions can relieve or even eliminate several difficult to manage chronic pain conditions. Low-dose ketamine produces a rapid response and near-immediate relief of pain symptoms, usually providing longer-term relief than traditional opioid treatments without any of the difficulties of medication management.

Is ketamine infusion therapy right for me?

You may be a candidate for ketamine infusion therapy if you are experiencing neuropathic pain that has not been well controlled by traditional treatments, like injections, nerve blocks or prescription pain medication. These conditions include:

  • Trigeminal neuralgia
  • Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS)
  • Reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD)
  • Phantom limb pain
  • Diabetic and other neuropathies
  • Postherpetic neuralgia
  • Headaches
  • Chronic back and neck pain resistant to other forms of treatment
  • Debilitating fibromyalgia
  • Debilitating musculoskeletal and joint pain

Ketamine treatment has been effective for providing relief for the following conditions:

  • Major depression (including postpartum depression)
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Bipolar depression
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Severe anxiety

Ketamine Infusion Therapy Treatment

Ketamine infusions are provided in a comfortable, medically controlled environment. All patients are monitored closely and the rate of infusion is optimized for individual patients, depending on their frequency of treatments and how well they tolerate the infusion. The risk of a reaction is extremely low.

Ketamine should be considered only if you have the time to complete a customized protocol that may require a number of visits. A series of low-dose ketamine infusions can dramatically alter or even eliminate chronic pain, but treatment requires a commitment to repeated transfusions at regularly scheduled intervals for maximum effect. In some cases, one treatment may be all that is necessary. But in most cases, repeated treatments over a scheduled period of time have been shown to be most effective in clinical trials.
